February 3, 2002 - Matthew 5:1-2, 8

Open It

  1. What concerns do you have for the purity of the food that you eat?
  2. How is your concern expressed or experienced in your every-day life?
  3. Do you believe that it is necessary for one to have a greater concern for purity of spirit that is felt for the need of pure food?

Explore It

  1. Who alone is pure and spotless? 1 Timothy 6.13-16; 1 Peter 1.18-20
  2. How is the wisdom that comes down from God pictured? James 3.17
  3. What kind of people ought we to be in order to stand before God? 2 Peter 3.11-13
  4. Who is it that will be enabled to stand in the presence of God? Psalm 24.3-4
  5. How does a person become clean or pure? John 15.3; Romans 5.9-10; 1 Peter 1.22
  6. What action are those who call on the name of the Lord for cleansing to take? 2 Timothy 2.19
  7. What is the individual who desires cleansing from God to shun? Pursue? 2 Timothy 2.20-22
  8. Describe the things that the Apostle Paul writes should not hold our attention or occupy our minds. 1 Timothy 1.3-4?

  11. What benefits does one achieve in developing purity of life? 1 Peter 1.22
  12. It is written that Christ loves the church so much that he gave himself for her to create what? How is the church described? Ephesians 5.25-26

  14. What evidence do we have that supports the hope of eventually seeing God? Acts 1.9-11; 1 John 3.2-2; Revelation 21.1-8

Get It

  1. The person with a pure heart is driven by what basic motivations?
  2. What kinds of pollution does the person of God confront?
  3. What standard does one use in order to recognize or define pollution?
  4. How does the person of God develop a sensitive awareness of the nature and dangers of pollution?
  5. How does one become free from the pollution of this world?
  6. What is the ultimate meaning of a "pure heart'?
  7. Is it possible to have a "pure heart" and still be a sinner?

Apply It

  1. As I evaluate myself in relation to the standard established by Jesus Christ, how do I see the condition of my spirit, heart, life?
  2. What steps may I take to improve the content and quality of my life?
  3. What rationalizations or excuses do I need to face to achieve the vision that Jesus has set before me.
  4. Am I willing to ask God to help me remove the defects of character that need to be replaced.
