INTRODUCTION:
Bibleman, Action hero
How do we get from Bibleman to Jesus.
We don't
Jesus is Bibleman
We get to Jesus only by action.
MAIN BODY:
According to Jennifer Farley, "It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Bibleman!!"
Batman! You've got some competition. It's Bibleman. (1)
At first glance, Bibleman looks like other action figures. Like Superman and Batman, Bibleman uses his powers to fight evil in the world. He has rippled muscles, a cape and a Robin-like sidekick named Cypher. But Bibleman is different; he has the wrath of God on his side.
Clad in purple tights and yellow body armor, this action doll is a Scripture-quoting hero. Kids can take a 12-inch version of him home from any of the hundreds of Christian-theme toy stores nationwide for $12.99.
Bibleman preaches his message of faith and redemption through videos, books, live tours, CDs and on his Web site, www.bibleman.com. Approximately 75,000 copies of each video have been sold along with nearly 500,000 action figures since the products were created in 1995.

What a contrast between Bibleman and Jesus!
Jesus is walking with his disciples and a large crowd of people who are following and listening.
You cannot help but love this person.
He is firm, but kind.
He is candid, but gracious.
He is deeply aware of the needs of the people and offers help.
As Jesus is walking he is met by a leader of the synagogue.
The whole procession stops.
He kneels before Jesus.
He informs Jesus that his daughter has died and asks that Jesus come and lay his hand on her so that she can live again.
This requires action on the part of the leader of the synagogue.
Jesus does not know of the child's death.
He can only help, if he is invited to help.
Jesus follows the leader of the synagogue with his disciples.
There is another interruption to the procession.
Jesus stops because he knows that someone has touched him.
His disciples are disbelieving.
How can you know that in this crowd of people that are pressed so tightly together that they are constantly bumping into one another.
This is a woman who has had a hemorrhage for 12 years.
She has taken charge of her own health care.
She has spent much on physicians who have not been able to help her.
She says to herself that if she can but touch the hem of his garment she will be healed.
This is the touch that heals.
And so she is.
She has to touch.
She receives not only physical healing, but also spiritual healing for Jesus cares for the whole person.
You have to reach out and touch.
Jesus is walking by.
He will not intervene in your life.
Faith impels action.

CONCLUSION
Several years ago, I heard the story of Larry Walters, a 33-year-old man who decided he wanted to see his neighborhood from a new perspective. (2)
He went down to the local army surplus store one morning and bought 45 used weather balloons. That afternoon, he strapped himself into a lawn chair, to which several of his friends tied the now helium-filled balloons. He took along a six-pack of beer, a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich and a BB gun, figuring he could shoot the balloons one at a time when he was ready to land.
Walters, who assumed the balloons would lift him about 100 feet in the air, was caught off guard when the chair soared more than 11,000 feet into the sky -- smack into the middle of the air traffic pattern at Los Angeles International Airport. Too frightened to shoot any of the balloons, he stayed airborne for more than two hours forcing the airport to shut down its runways for much of the afternoon, causing long delays in flights from across the country.
Soon after he was safely grounded and cited by the police, reporters asked him three questions
Were you scared?
Yes.
Would you do it again?
No.
Why did you do it?
Because, he said, you can't just sit there.
You can sit there or not, it's up to you.
