INTRODUCTION:
- A man comes riding into Jerusalem on a young ass, a
colt.
- A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and
others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
- The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed
were shouting,
- "Hosanna to the Son of David!
- Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
- Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
- When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in
turmoil, asking, "Who is this?"
- Can you imagine if Jesus had been treated like a
20th-century celebrity as he rode into Jerusalem? (1)
- Wolf Blitzer might have reported on rumors that Jesus
planned to disrupt temple business.
- Pundits would have argued about who he
"really" was.
- Gail Sheehy would undoubtedly have written a
psychological profile for Vanity Fair.
- Some tabloid would investigate Jesus' relationship with
"the woman at the well."
- There would be in-depth analysis by cult specialists
and modern-day Pharisees on MSNBC.
- A council of church officials would be in place to
study the authenticity of Jesus' feeding the multitudes and walking on water.
- As he entered the dusty city, hundreds if not thousands
would have snapped their throwaway Kodaks, and pointed their videocams while Katie Couric,
along with Willard Scott, making a special appearance, would stand by to offer color
commentary.

- We still have the question.
- Who is this.
- The answer that was given is:
"This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in
Galilee."
Main Body:
- After all this would we know any more than we knew in
the beginning.
- The crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus
from Nazareth in Galilee."
- Is this all he is?
- No! No! He is much more than a prophet from Nazareth.
- He is the Messiah
- He is the Savior
- He is the Sacrifice
- He is the Redeemer
- He is a king.
- There is another word picture that makes this very
plain.
- It is also a picture that ought to inspire us to sit up
and take notice.
- It is not picture of the "gentle" Christ
riding into Jerusalem to offer himself as the sacrifice for sin and sinners.
- It is a picture of a great and righteous warrior in the
final stages of the great war between good and evil.
- What is portrayed is found in Revelation 19.
- 6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great
multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying
out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
- He is in control.
- He is now the ultimate, gracious, merciful, true and
just ruler of all.
- The kingdoms of this world have now become the kingdoms
of our Lord and of his Christ.

- 7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for
the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready;
- The "bride," the "Lamb's wife," is
that great city the New Jerusalem.
- The New Jerusalem which is from above.
- It is the place which Christ has gone to prepare.
- It is the city which is described in Revelation 21 and
22, which descends from God out of heaven.
- 8 to her it has been granted to be clothed with fine
linen, bright and pure"--for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
- The her is not the city but the people who reside in
the city.
- Their sins have been taken away.
- Their lives have been cleanses of all contamination.
- They are pure and spotless.
- 9 And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed
are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said to me,
"These are true words of God."
- The invitation has been sent out by Christ.
- It is described in the parable of the ten maidens.
- It is emphasized in the parable of the wedding feast.
- Then we are provided a vision, a description of the one
who is coming.
- 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white
horse! Its rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes
war.

the enemy.

- 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and his
name is called The Word of God.
- Robe dipped in blood
- (Isaiah 63:1-3 NRSV) "Who is this that comes from
Edom, from Bozrah in garments stained crimson? Who is this so splendidly robed, marching
in his great might?" "It is I, announcing vindication, mighty to save." [2]
"Why are your robes red, and your garments like theirs who tread the wine
press?" [3] "I have trodden the wine press alone, and from the peoples no one
was with me; I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their juice spattered
on my garments, and stained all my robes.
- The Word of God
- John 1:1-3: In the beginning was the Word and the Word
was with God and the Word is God.
- 14 And the armies of heaven, wearing fine linen, white
and pure, were following him on white horses.
- Armies of heaven
- All the heavenly hosts
- 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to
strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine
press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
- Sharp sword
- (Hebrews 4:12-13 NRSV) Indeed, the word of God is
living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from
spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
[13] And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of
the one to whom we must render an account.

- King of Kings
- Lord of Lords.
- Pilate's question is now answered.
- Are you the King of the Jews.
- It is as you say.
- This is the one who came and is to come.

- He is the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the
world.

horse to ultimate victory.

which is to come.
