Volunteer Missionary Society
Annual Report for 2003
The Volunteer Missionary Society met on the first Wednesday of each month except July and October in the church fellowship room at 1:30 p.m. At the present there are seven persons on the roll call with an average attendance of six.
Officers for the year were; President - Marion Sanford, Vice President - Emma Abplanalp, Secretary - Vivian Dodge, Treasurer -Clara Harrop, Sunshine Committee - Darlene Mellom, Luncheon Committee - Clara Harrop, Darlene Mellom, and Vivian Dodge.
Usually we have devotions one month and a project the next month. Some of the projects were making of lap robes, Project Linus throws, baby crib quilts, and wheelchair and walker bags. We made 27 robes, throws and quilts in all and 12 bags which were given to nursing homes and various individuals in need of them.
We enjoyed a planned potluck dinner at the church in July and an outing to eat and visit Ski Hi Orchard in October. Another project we do annually is clean the church kitchen and plant flowers in the three church planters. We also gave donations of $100.00 each to .The Madison Rescue Mission, The Salvation Army, and R.B.C. Ministries for the daily bread, a daily devotional given to persons attending church.
Visitation is done regularly to sick and shut ins. Cards and phone calls are made also. We gave poinsettia plants to shut ins at Christmas time. We also add a cookie exchange in December and some of the cookies were given to the sick and shut ins to enjoy.
With the help of other church members we served a lunch after the funerals of Harriet Roberts, a long time member who passed away on April 10 and Irene Baker, also a long time member who passed away on May 23. We also helped with lunch for the funeral of Robert Reimann, a long time member who passed away on Nov. 15, by furnishing desserts.
It is our hope to help others in any way we are able as Volunteers in the name of Our Savior, Jesus Christ.
