Arena Congregational Church
Annual Meeting - January 20, 2002

1. The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. by Board President, Steve Wilkinson.

2. Opening prayer by Steve Wilkinson.

3. Minutes of the 2001 annual meeting were read by Colleen Wahljohnson.

   1. Motion by LaVerne Sneath to approve the minutes as presented.

   2. Second by Joyce Reimann. Motion carried.

4. FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS REPORTS

   1. Clerk's Report - was read by Colleen Wahljohnson.

      1. Motion to approve by Bob Reimann.

      2. Second by Marion Sanford. Motion carried.

   2. Church Financial Report- was read by LaVerne Sneath.

      1. Motion to approve by Karen Wilkinson.

      2. Second by Vivian Dodge. Motion carried.

   3. Pastors Report - was read by members.

      1. Motion to approve by LaVerne Sneath.

      2. Second by Emma Abplanalp.

   4. Sunday School Report- was read by members.

      1. Motion to approve by Vivian Dodge.

      2. Second by Joyce Reimann. Motion carried.

   5. Volunteer-Missionary Society Report- was read by Vivian Dodge.

      1. Motion to approve by Marion Sanford.

      2. Second by Clara Harrop. Motion carried.

   6. Budget Report- was presented LaVerne Sneath.

Discussion was held on a salary increase for Pastor Shultz, and a stipend increase for Marie Bryant for playing the piano.

7. Motion by LaVerne Sneath to approve the recommendation of the governing board for the salary increase of$25.00/per week to bring Pastor Shultz's weekly pay to $175.00, and the stipend increase for Marie Bryant to $40.00 per week for playing piano.

1. Second by Joyce Reimann.

2. Motion carried.

3. Motion to approve the general fund budget proposal for 2002 by LaVerne Sneath.

4. Second by Bob Reimann.

5. Old Business:

   1. Fellowship Room - The east side of the building still needs to be painted in the spring. Discussion was held regarding painting it vs. siding it. The board will research the best approach and bring it back to the congregation.

   2. Kitchen flooring - Steve presented information to the members about replacing the flooring in the kitchen and asked for ideas. Discussion was held about the type of flooring to use; tile, linoleum, or carpet. The board will continue to discuss this and will come back to the congregation with their recommendation and prices.

   1. Nomination of Steve Wilkinson for a three year term by Helga Shultz,

   2. Nomination of Jim Favreau for a three year term by Joyce Reimann.

      1. Motion by Bob Reimann to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballet.

      2. Second by Pastor Shultz. Discussion followed regarding the number of positions open and the office of president. With clarification from board President, Steve Wilkinson that the nominations are for board members not specific officers on the board Bob Reimann withdrew his original motion and Pastor Shultz withdrew his second as well. Nominations remained open.

   3. Nomination of Joyce Reimann by Jim Favreau.

   4. Motion by Jim Favreau to rescind the rule in the constitution, for the year of 2002, that requires a member be off the board for a one year period before they can be reelected if Joyce Reimann is elected by the members.

      1. Second by Marion Sanford. Motion carried.

   5. Steve Wilkinson withdrew his name from the ballot.

      1. Motion by Bob Reimann to close the nominations and cast an unanimous ballot for Jim Favreau and Joyce Reimann.

      2. Second by Pastor Shultz. Motion carried.

8. Other Positions:

   1. Sunday School Superintendent - Karen Wilkinson

      1. Steve Wilkinson nominated Karen Wilkinson.

      2. Motion by LaVerne Sneath to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Karen Wilkinson. Second by John Reimann. Motion carried.

   2. Choir Director- Steve Wilkinson

      1. Nomination by Bob Reimann to have Steve Wilkinson serve as choir director. Motion by Jim Favreau to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Steve.

      2. Second by Karen Wilkinson. Motion carried.

   3. Church Secretary- Steve Wilkinson

      1. Nomination by Jim Favreau to have Steve continue as church secretary.

      2. Motion by Joyce Reimann to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Steve.

      3. Second by Bob Reimann. Motion carried.

   4. Head Ushers- Bob Reimann, John Reimann, LaVerne Sneath, Ray Johnson, Jim Favreau.

      1. Nomination by Steve Wilkinson to have Bob Reimann, John Reimann, LaVerne Sneath, Ray Johnson, and Jim Favreau act as ushers.

      2. Motion by Pastor Shultz to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballot.

      3. Second by Marion Sanford. Motion carried.

   5. Water usage - LaVerne Sneath asked that all members check the toilets after use to make sure they shut off before leaving. For two different months the water/sewer bill was very high due to the stools running. Members were reminded to check the thermostats after using the building as well.

   6. Church Covenant - Pastor Shultz had provided the congregation with sample covenants from other churches prior to the meeting. Discussion was held regarding them. The majority of people expressed interest in designing a church covenant using the old Mill Creek Congregational Church covenant as a model. The procedure to be followed is that the board will look at that covenant and make revisions, present it to the members of the congregation for revisions, then the board will make the final draft.

9. Motion by Colleen Wahljohnson to adjourn the meeting.

   4. Second by John Reimann. Motion carried.
